Academic Competitions
Each year First Christian Academy participates in student activities organized through ACSI (the Association of Christian Schools International). Annual participation may vary due to calendar conflicts, but most years the school participates in the following events:
ACSI Regional Spelling Bee
The students in grades 1 – 6 will compete in an in-class spelling bee to determine the top two spellers. The winners in each class will be invited to go to the Regional Bee to compete against spellers from many local Christian schools. In the upper grades, the top spellers will be invited to compete at the state level. This event encourages students to become accurate and confident spellers.
ACSI Math Olympics
The students in grades 3 – 6 will compete with their classmates by taking a math test supplied to all participating ACSI member schools. The students in each class with the highest score on the classroom test will be invited to test again on a designated day for the Regional mail in Math Olympics. The tests are graded and the top winners in the region are given medals and certificates. Participating in the Math Olympics gets students excited about what they are learning in school and identifies students with a high aptitude in mathematics.
ACSI Art Festival
The students produce works of art in various media to be entered into the festival. All entries receive awards and are judged according to a point system set up by ACSI. This event is a fantastic way to exhibit the students’ artistic creativity and showcase their outstanding work. Students are encouraged to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ through their artwork although it not required to have religious connotations. Emphasis is placed on each student’s personal expression of God’s love and His creation.
ACSI Music Festival
Students in grades 3-6 that are part of FCA’s choir program will participate in the ACSI Choral Festival.
